Christina:

Thank you for asking -- I so appreciate that!

The book is currently in an editing process. Every good book needs a good editor & I've got the best editorial help available! Debra indeed has had a look at it & is helping w/some glitches I had to better define. Funny thing about writing a book . . . you look at that manuscript over & over & over SO many times that there are idiosyncracies you as the writer do not see, no matter how many times you may edit it yourself.

I can't thank Debra enough for her help. She's been invaluable & I hope to return the massive favor. The book, obviously from this note, isn't ready for purchase. It's on the scope for next year. It IS, however, as Debra mentioned, available for pre-publication notice. If you're interested, e-mail the publisher at:

lynnATbehlerpublications.com

(replace the "at" with the appropriate sign) & in the subject line put: "Robert Taylor Waiting List" & put your name & e-mail address in the body of the message.

This puts you under no obligation. It will allow you early notification of the pub date & give you the opportunity to purchase a copy ahead of public distribution . . . as well as get you an autographed copy, if that's of interest.

A quick recap:

Robert Taylor was an actor during Hollywood's glamour days. Officially the longest-running studio contract actor in the history of Hollywood (a record he'll always hold since that system is long gone), he was on the screen from the mid-1930s thru to the late 1960s in film & on TV.

Taylor rec'd forever infamy when he was compelled to appear in front of the US gov't's House Un-American Activities Committee hearings in 1947. He has been publicly chastised for "naming names" of Communists & supposedly scarring their careers, & lives. However, he never branded a single actor as a communist; he did name folks who were members of the Screen Actors Guild & who "disrupted" those meetings. Big difference.

Taylor's life had an intriguing back-story that's never really been told before. That's become my job. Here's a link to his profile on IMDB:

http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001791/

There's a lot out there on the web about him but little is altogether true . . . many mis-statements. I hope to remedy that. ; >

Thx again for asking.

Blessings -- Linda

I took a peak at his profile and was surprised to see how young he was when he died. Lung Cancer I guess. Of course, I remember him well (that dates me!), but I didn't remember that he was forced to testify at the McCarthy hearings. So many lives were destroyed during this witch hunt.

I'm looking forward to reading your book, Linda, and hearing the untold story.

Christina:

The HUAC testimony in Hollywood was BEFORE McCarthy came into the picture. Because McCarthy was this magnetic character that most people loved to hate, he seemed to "date" the era but it really started before him. It has been said that the Hollywood "hunt" started that ball rolling downhill. The committee had been in existence in one for or another since the '30s. They were looking for an "in" to get their point across. Hollywood & the studio system was the right vehicle @ the right time.

And Taylor being "forced" to testify is a strong word. Many would argue he could have turned them down, as the Hollywood Ten turned down the demand that they state their position--for or against. They went into history because they refused to state that position & were jailed for contempt.

Sooo, the reality is that Taylor COULD have refused & could have also gone to jail. Therein lies the argument that's been put up against him all these years since. I've found that many find it easy to place someone's actions into their own mindset & consider them a villain or a hero based on the decider's view of life . . . rather than take into consideration what that other person lived & the time in which they lived.

"There but for the grace of God go. . . ."

It's easier to give an opinion than to try & understand, on many an occasion. I did this book to dig into the "whys" of Taylor's actions, & I was surprised to find a lot that had never been publicized.

Thx!

Linda,

I have read so much about actors who were blacklisted because they would not testify before the HUAC. One was Lionel Stander, whom I so enjoyed watching. I think your book will open new discussions as to why Robert Taylor and others did testify.

Very excited about this.

Vannie:

Yes, I think you do understand the concept of what was done by whom & why . . . based on their life at that point in time. That period is a great study in the human condition -- why we do what we do when we do it.

Thx for the good words. Everyone will know when the book is coming out . . . fer shure!
