Glorinda Marie | | Hello!
I am a new member of this wonderful group thanks to Linda's inviation. I am an actress and I do understand that once a person is thrown into the spotlight there is a respnsibility that comes with that. I hope I will always provide a good role model and inspire others. If I become famous..er um - WHEN I become famous - I will use it for good whenever possible.
I completely understand how a persons mind can change on a slime ball actor - It does become hard to watch someone who you know to be a child molestor or something horrible like that. I use to work as a DJ and several years ago I stopped playing Michael Jackson music unless someone in the crowd specifically requested it. I could not bear to hear his music anymore without thinking about how weird and unsavory he/she "it" is!

Welcome! I'm SO glad you joined us. I'm sure you'll contribute a unique insider's POV to discussions. And I LOVE your name . . . add that to talent &, well, you can't help but become a household name!
I encourage everyone to check out the article written on Glorinda. She'll be in an upcoming Christmas movie on the Hallmark channel, starring Ed Asner, titled "The Christmas Card." I look forward to seeing her play Molly, the "sassy diner waitress." Sounds like a yummy part. You'll have to tell us about it, Glorinda.
This all brings up a great network tie-in. Ed Asner is very politically active & vocal about his opinions. Did you have much of a chance to interact w/him? What are your thoughts on his various involvements in the public arena away from film & stage?
I'd also be curious to hear others thoughts on him & his politics. He's liberal, often controversial in his activism. Here's a great online interview done with him in 2005:

It dovetails into the Reagan/Taylor era of Hollywood, their conservative political views . . . except from the opposite side. He, too, was President of Screen Actor's Guild (in 1981). Reagan was president from 1947-1952 & again from 1959-1960.
Would love to have some discussion around this!

Ed Asner is a wonderful person besides being an amazing actor. My only regret was that I was not in a scene with him on the set of "The Christmas Card", so sadly I did not get to chat with him personally. My scenes were with John Newton, Alice Evans and Ben Weber - the young stars of the film and also the funny Peter Jason. Stephen Bridgewater was an amazing director to work with. he served as drama coach on such films as "Twelve Monkeys". You can see their impressive credits at imdb.com. I was honored to be among these awesome people.
AND thanks also for that article link you posted - the interview with Ed Asner. I respect him immensely for not being timid to say his piece... as he says - that will only give you ulcers! Hoorah for him. I admit I am a very liberal person - so I suppose I'd better heed his advice and tread carefully until I am in the position to make a difference. But I am not one for ulcers either!
On a different topic... I was wondering if anyone saw Al Gore's documentary "An Inconvenient Truth" and what your thoughts were on that film.

Glad you liked the link. It was a neat article. I think Asner's an excellent actor & definitely has his passion placed firmly in what he believes. He's opinionated -- things don't often get done by meek people, & sometimes seems radical. But then, while I'd not consider myself right-wing or even conservative (fercryinoutloud, I wrote a book about the porn industry . . . & I was there!), I'd say I'm much less radical & lean more towards a middle-of-the-road way of global problem-solving. His advice about treading carefully is good, IMHO. I think he may have been reflecting on his more blatant moments when he said that & the possible difficulties he had.
I found his comments about blacklisting interesting. It's a term bandied around Hollywood a long time, obviously, & while originally used as a way to identify liberals being denied work by conservatives (Ronald Reagan, Robert Taylor, John Wayne, etc), it's notable to mention that folks such as Robert Taylor were "blacklisted" after the hearings, by no longer getting types of roles & number of roles that were offered prior to the communist-driven stand-off.
And we find Ed Asner saying that in the '80s he'd been blacklisted for being liberal. History definitely repeats itself, doesn't it? It's a cycle, & what has gone before will come again.
re: the Gore documentary: I didn't see it. Frankly, I don't like him. He may have valid points, but I've never been able to stomach him. I live in suburban MD outside DC. My husband still works for the federal gov't & I worked for them for some time. I've such a hard time w/politicians of most any ilk. I think we get SO much of it here, & especially if we work in the gov't machine & see how it really works, it becomes difficult to stand back & see anything done by politicians as truly "for the people."
Guess I'm something of a cynic, eh?! : >
